Hello contra dancers-
First of all, I’d like to extend thanks to our band and caller for a great night and thanks to the dancers for a great turnout at our contra dance last Saturday!

Secondly, our Square Dance friends who help us by providing a dance venue for our contra dances have a special invitation for us. The Bachelor Beauts square dancers are putting on a community dance free of charge from 6-7 on this Saturday, November 17 at the Pine Forest Grange. Everyone is welcome, no partner or experience necessary to attend, all figures will be taught. (Most square dance moves are very similar to contra moves.) Come join us for an evening of fun & invite your friends. There is more information about the event on the attached flyer-

Dance opportunities for September

Hello dancers, as we head into Fall there are a few things happening that you should be aware of.

Mark your calendars, our first dance of the season is October 13th and we will again be dancing at the Pine Forest Grange.

In the mean-time, there will be square dance lessons (very similar to contradance) starting in September taught by Ron Bell-Roemer, with an introductory Beginner Sampler Series three-class session that introduces fundamental moves used at almost every square dance. Classes meet Sun/Thur, 6:15 to 8:15 pm, at the Pine Forest Grange. Cost is just $20 per person for the three-class series. Please see the attached flyer. For more square dance class info, please contact Kay Bithell 541-382-7014 or email Kaybithell@centurylink.net

Free Community Square Dance and Benefit 6/30/18

The local square dance community is holding a free beginner dance this Saturday (6/30) 6:30 to 7:30 pm, at the Pine Forest Grange where we hold our contra dances during the school year. Come out and meet the dance community that helps us by hosting our contra dances, and if you can bring donations to help support the Bethlehem Inn & Neighbor Impact.

From the Central Oregon Square and Round Dance Council-

“PLEASE come for the community dance sampler starting at 6:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce friends or family to square dancing, and we also need angels — so bring friends and yourselves, too.

There is no door fee to attend, as this dance is sponsored by the Grange in appreciation for the area square dance and round dance clubs that rent and make great use of the Grange.

Donations will be accepted for the Bethlehem Inn and/or for Neighbor Impact. The latest word is that cash/check donations are best for both. They use cash donations to purchase the food and supplies most needed and can use their bulk buying contracts to buy the most for the least. Thank you in advance for your generous support of these local non-profit community organizations.”

Hope to see you on the dance floor Saturday night!

Our Last Contradance of the Season

Thank you to all who attended our March dinner and dance, with special thanks to Anna Witham and crew who put on a great feast for us. We had a record (for this venue) 88 folks join us on Saturday for our March contradance.

Be sure to put our next dance on your calendar, Saturday, April 14 with the wonderful Ric Goldman calling and our own High Country Dance Band supplying great music!

After the April dance we will take a break until October when we start up our dance series again. Our dancers (and board members) enjoy their outdoor activities in the summer.

Another dance activity happening throughout the year at the Pine Forest Grange is Modern Western Square Dance. Ron Bell-Roemer will be teaching Mainstream Square Dance lessons for the Bachelor Buttes square dance club starting in the first week of April, see the following flyer for more information. Learning square dance (contra’s close cousin) can help you with positioning, timing, and styling for the more intricate contra dancing done at weekend events in the Valley. Completing mainstream lessons also allows you to dance at any mainstream square dance club across the US.   Square dance links are here:  Central Oregon , State of Oregon , USA

Keep checking this webpage and our facebook page for late breaking info, sometimes we have impromptu events during the summer. The past two summers we’ve had basic level contras at Crow’s Feet Commons on Art Walk Fridays. One way to keep in the loop is to have us add you to our email reminder list – send us a line at bendcontra@gmail.com . Don’t forget to check our links page for other related Central Oregon music and dance.

Keep dancing!

-Ron
